One by one Samsung A series smartphone adorns the market. If previously we had tasted the Galaxy A8 + (2018), on the occasion this time it was the turn of Galaxy A6 + (2018) to be ready for 'dissected' inside and out. In Indonesia, the Galaxy A6 + sells for around Rp.4.8 million, the price of which is certainly not affordable.

For those of you who might be looking for a smartphone in that price range, hopefully this review can provide a little picture, whether the Galaxy A6 + is the smartphone you're looking for. For this reason, there is nothing wrong with listening to the following description.

Full Metal body

If you have seen or felt the Galaxy A8 + (2018), the formation of the Galaxy A6 + seems to have many similarities. You could say the design of the Galaxy A6 + is actually based on the smartphone which is the predecessor's series. Nevertheless, a slight difference still appears between the two series A smartphones.

The body of the Galaxy A6 + is packaged by combining the screen panel on the front and metal material that covers the rear area and the sides of this smartphone. Although it has a 6 inch wide screen that is quite wide, thanks to the aspect ratio of 18.5: 9, the smartphone remains slim.

For the whole, the smartphone body has dimensions of 160.2 x 75.7 x 7.9 mm or the equivalent of a 5.5 inch sailing smartphone with a standard ratio of 16: 9. In addition to still comfortable to hold, smooth arches on each side of the body, making the Galaxy A6 + feels ergonomic and solid. Of course the design of this smartphone is also fairly elegant and impressive even though when held by the body of the smartphone feels slippery and easily leaves a trace of fingerprints.

Component layout problem, Galaxy A6 + is relatively the same as Galaxy A8 + (2018). In the front area, a 6.0-inch landscape screen dominates this area. At the bottom of the screen is fairly clean because there are no components perched here. Conversely, at the top of the screen components such as the front camera sensor, receiver (speaker), proximity sensor, and LED Flash light.

Turning to the right section, here we will find the power button next to the speaker hole similar to that which can be found on the Galaxy A8 +. While in the opposite area, the side section is found with a volume rocker button side by side with the SIM slot. Please note, the SIM slot embedded in the Galaxy A6 + has two parts. In the first tray located above this is the slot used for SIM 1, while in the other slot is the place for SIM 2 and microSD cards. Other components, such as the audio jack and micro-USB port are placed on the bottom side of the segment.

In the back, you can see a dual-camera sensor perched and a fingerprint sensor with a flash LED next to it. On the top and bottom sides of the smartphone antenna line that adorns the area behind this smartphone.

Infinity Display

From the display side, again the Galaxy A6 + with the Galaxy A8 + (2018) has many similarities, ranging from the size, resolution, to the type of screen used. Yup, the Galaxy A6 + has been formulated with the Infinity Display concept screen which is also adopted by the Galaxy A8 + (2018).

The Galaxy A6 + has a Super AMOLED type screen. Regarding the Super AMOLED screen, as it is known, this type of screen, besides being known for its clarity, also has other advantages, including the appearance or content presented is still relatively visible when used outdoors under sun exposure.

It also does not differ between the Galaxy A8 + (2018) and Galaxy A6 +, seen from the screen size which both have a 6.0-inch diagonal with a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels. So that from its density, the content emitted by both smartphones reaches 441 ppi. While thanks to the aspect ratio of 18.5: 9, the Galaxy A6 + screen also not only looks elongated, in terms of the experience offered such as watching videos, playing games, browsing the internet, and other activities is also much better.

Talk about the performance of the screen, as from its responsiveness, the Galaxy A6 + is very good. Likewise the ability of multi-touch, where based on the test results it is known that the screen of the Galaxy A6 + already supports this feature. In fact, when tested with multitouch testing software, the Galaxy A6 + screen is possible to be accessed up to 10 points. Another thing offered by the Galaxy A8 + (2018) and can be found on the Galaxy A6 + is the four corners of the screen that are presented rather rounded in harmony with the body of the smartphone which certainly sweetens the appearance.

Loaded with typical manufacturer's default features

When the Samsung smartphone used to be known for its user interface called TouchWiz UI, since the era of the Galaxy S8 it was known as the Samsung Experience. In the Galaxy A6 +, the manufacturer packs it with the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system that is enhanced by Samsung Experience 9.0 on it.

If you are a loyal user of Samsung devices, you may already be familiar with what is displayed on Samsung Experience. Not only appearing fresher, in general the user interface adopted by the Galaxy A6 + is also simpler. In the default version, the App Drawer icon appears to be invisible, so to open the menu window, just swipe your finger from the bottom up or vice versa. In line with that, if we want to bring up the application menu icon it is possible to access Settings> Display> Home Screen> Apps> Button. Here there are two choices that we can choose, namely Show Apps Button or Hide Apps Button.

Like other Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy A6 + has also been embedded with a feature called Always On Display. With this feature, when the smartphone is in standby it will be presented with a clock number along with other notifications backed by the wallpaper used by the user. This feature can actually be activated or not, how to simply access Settings> Display> Always On Display. This page includes all menus, starting from the content you want to display, the Clock Style, to the settings for scheduling.

Of course, on the Galaxy A6 +, there is already a Bixby application. As an intelligent assistant based on artificial intelligence, Bixby in the Galaxy A8 + (2018) has a number of capabilities, namely as Bixby Home, Bixby Vision and Bixby Reminder. For example, Bixby vision, with this feature, users are facilitated to search for various visual information, translate text into various languages or find reference places when traveling. To access Bixby is quite easy, where we simply sweep the screen horizontally from left to right.

Do not stop there, a number of other interesting applications also brought Samsung to the Galaxy A6 +, including Samsung Health, Samsung Connect, S Lime, Samsung Max, and other default applications.

Fingerprint and Face Recognition

For user security matters, such as the present-day smartphone in addition to carrying standard security features, such as Passwords, PINs or Patterns, the Galaxy A6 + also includes biometric-based security aspects, namely fingerprint sensors and face recognition. Using the Face Recognition feature we can quickly and easily open the screen, it's as easy as taking a selfie or scanning a finger.

In its use, both the fingerprint and face recognition security features when you want to be activated, users are required to perform a standard security backup, namely by using the PIN, password, and pattern. This is indeed a kind of backup, where if in certain circumstances the biometric-based security features don't work, we still can still access the smartphone by using standard security features, both in the form of PINs, patterns or passwords.

Dual-Camera 16 MP + 5 MP

Have a lot of similarities on a number of sides with the Galaxy A8 + (2018), of course the Galaxy A6 + has a series of differences, one of which is in the photography sector. When in the Galaxy A8 + series (2018), Samsung adopts the dual-camera feature for the front sensor, on the Galaxy A6 + just the opposite. Yes, on the smartphone that we are discussing this dual-camera feature is applied as the main viewfinder located on the back.

In detail the back camera of the Samsung Galaxy A6 + has a composition of 16 MP (f / 1.7) + 5 MP (f / 1.9). In addition to offering a resolution that is very adequate for snapping moments, the main camera of the Galaxy A6 (2018) is also supported by a number of features, including phase detection autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, and HDR.

The Galaxy A6 + camera interface looks quite familiar. Here we are presented with a number of facilities that can be arranged in such a way as to produce images as desired. On the left side, for example, a sequence from top to bottom presents a menu icon for Camera Settings, activates / deactivates the flash light, full view on / off, and at the bottom of the icon to switch to front / rear camera mode. The other facilities are presented on the right side, such as the shutter button and various other modes.

The Galaxy A6 + camera interface supports certain gestures. For example, just sweeping the finger from the bottom up (landscape position), we can change the rear camera mode to the front camera, and vice versa. Meanwhile, if you access other modes, such as Pro, Panorama, Auto, etc., you can do it by sweeping the screen from left to right.

Using the Galaxy A6 + camera to snap the moment the results obtained are quite satisfying. The resulting image is very sharp barely disturbed by noise. The color presentation is also so natural and alive. For those who like to aim at objects with bokeh effects, the dual-camera feature on the Galaxy A6 + is already possible. The background of the photo you want to make blur can also be set, either before the object is shot or after. As the main camera called on the Galaxy A6 + has an opening f1.7 lens, making a shot at a low-light area still looks clear and bright.

24 MP Selfie Camera

Unmitigated, to indulge its users who like to actualize themselves through a smartphone camera, the Galaxy A6 + is packed with a 24MP resolution front camera sensor with f1.9 openings plus a flash light.

Armed with a high resolution sensor, the quality of selfie photos obtained via the front camera of the Galaxy A6 + does not disappoint. In addition to producing sharp photos, the display of colors that appear also looks natural. Interestingly, thanks to the Live Focus feature, it's also possible to take selfies with a blur or blurry background.

In addition to the Live Focus feature, the camera on the Galaxy A6 + also provides other facilities that are quite interesting, such as a feature called Stickers. With this feature, we can aim at objects, both self photos and other photos by accompanying cute stickers that can be selected as desired.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 + 4GB RAM

Unlike the Galaxy A8 + (2018) which is supported by octa-core Exynos 7885 processors, to sustain the performance of the Galaxy A6 + driven by Snapdragon 450 processor. Qualcomm's chipset is known to have Octa-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 configuration and Adreno 506 graphics processor. list of specifications, besides carrying the CPU and GPU as mentioned above, the Galaxy A6 + also supports 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory which can still be expanded via microSD cards up to 256GB.

Regarding its performance, even though it's not as crowded as the Galaxy A8 + (2018) which is actually its predecessor, yet the Galaxy A6 + can still be relied on to accompany users on the move. At least, based on what is felt by the author, various activities such as browsing the internet, accessing social networks, playing games is relatively heavy and can be handled by the Galaxy A6 + without significant obstacles.

Referring to the benchmark results, when compared to the Galaxy A8 + (2018) which has an AnTuTu score at 84265, the Galaxy A6 + is below it with a score reaching 69919. This is worth understanding because the Galaxy A6 + is sold at a cheaper price, the impact is the specifications are below Galaxy A8 + (2018) which when sold for the first time is in the range of IDR 8 million.

For graphics performance, in detail using 3D Mark software, the Galaxy A6 + has a score of 724 (Sling Shot Extreme - OpenGL ES3.1) and 608 (Sling Shot Extreme - Vulcan). Please see the complete benchmark results in the table presented.

i power supply sector, the Galaxy A6 + is equipped with a 3500 mAh battery. Overall the performance of the Galaxy A6 + is quite good. To play the game is relatively heavy, within one hour, the battery is sucked 12%. As for when used to watch videos in HD format, at the same time, the battery is drained by 8%. Unlike the Galaxy A8 + (2018) which has adopted the USB-C port, to charge the Galaxy A6 + still using micro-USB port connectivity.

With a price that is above Rp. 4,5 million, it is quite unfortunate if it turns out that the Galaxy A6 + still adopts a micro-USB port. If only this smartphone had supported USB Type C, at least a number of advantages of this type of port could be taken along with the Galaxy A6 +. As is known, USB Type C has a number of advantages, including easier, faster data transfer and supports the fast charging feature.

Conclusion

With a cheaper price, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy A6 + can be an alternative for those who are eyeing the Galaxy A8 + (2018) as a favorite smartphone, but is constrained by a budget in the pocket. Although not exactly the same as 'plek', at least between the two there are many similarities. Of course, the Galaxy A6 +, which is priced cheaper, has on several sides a lot of records, starting from the absence of USB Type C, the processor is still Snapdragon series 400, and only 32GB of internal memory.

When compared with the Galaxy A8 + (2018), the Galaxy A6 + is indeed cheaper. However, when compared to other brand products, there are not a few smartphones that can head-to-head with the Galaxy A6 +, both in terms of price and specifications that might actually be better. After all, the choice remains in your hands.
