As the top vendor, Samsung always presents the latest update products for all segments. One of them is in the beginner's segment by presenting the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core. As with the products in the previous J series, the minimalist hardware side with the low end standard capabilities is a characteristic of this one product.
With 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, an 8 megapixel rear camera and a front camera of only 5 megapixels, can the specification of Samsung Galaxy J2 Core attract the interest of beginners? By carrying out Samsung's big name, is this product one in more ways than competitors in its class? To be clearer, follow the explanation.
Simple design
In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core looks like a beginner cellphone in general. With a 5.0-inch screen span and dimensions of 143.4 x 72.1 x 8.9 mm, this 154 g mobile phone still feels right in your hand. The front and rear display with plain black makes it look rather boring.
Indentations on all four sides and sides of the body give a general impression. On the front, floating buttons are placed on a screen consisting of multitasking, menus and back. The quick menu on the top screen displays several quick access icons that make it easy and equipped with a brightness slider. This brightness level does not provide automatic brightness, it's just that there is an outdoor mode that makes it easy for you to see the screen under the hot sun. The front camera is above the screen, the right side of the speaker hole without the flash LED.
The USB port for data or charging is placed on the bottom with an audio port on the right. On the right side there is a power button, while the volume button is on the left side.
At the rear, the rear camera is placed in the upper middle position with a flash LED underneath. The camera and LED flash are placed parallel to the casing (not protruding) with a pattern extending downward. Underneath there is a 'samsung' text that looks rather vague.
As a non-unibody cellphone, the rear casing can be opened easily by following the congkelan hole in the upper left corner. The SIM card slot 1 and the microSD card slot are stacked in the center (below the flash LED), while the SIM card 2 slot is on the right. Both cards use a micro SIM card.
This cellphone with a 5-inch landscape screen adopts a qHD TFT LCD LCD screen with a resolution of 540x960 pixels. This phone feels mediocre in presenting a video or image. Maximum density that can be reached 221 dpi and multitouch testing get 5 finger touches simultaneously. Not bad. During testing, the screen response is not slow even though it is not fast. No problem is the point. Although this phone does not include an additional layer for the screen protector, the surface of the screen feels quite slippery.
Android Oreo
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core still uses the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system without any noticeable or default UI polish. There are no themes for customization. However, for standard customization there are settings for wallpapers, widgets and front screen settings in the form of additional application settings or application icon badges. Additional applications will appear on the front page after the main page, whereas to see the entire application, you can scroll through the screen from the bottom up. For users' security, this phone also only includes standard security such as passwords, PINs or patterns without fingerprints or face unlock.
Quad-core hardware, 1GB RAM
This phone uses a quad-core processor with 1.4 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 speed. For graphics performance, this phone is supported by Mali-T720. For storage, this phone only uses 1GB RAM plus 8GB ROM that can still be added with a microSD card up to 128GB. That is, you can't expect much from the internal storage that only remains around 4GB. You can still hope from the USB OTG feature for storing business. In the testing process, Google's default application update does not make this phone run out of storage space. There is also not enough storage notification. Testing by installing online games like Need for Speed No Limit, everything went smoothly. That is, even though RAM and ROM are limited, performance remains stable. But don't install too many applications, because only 8 GB of internal memory will limit.
For benchmarks, several additional applications are used to test them. The results of testing using Antutu Benchmark not obtained results because the application stopped in the middle of the road. Using Geekbench 4.2.3 scores 612 for single-core, 1,648 for multi-core and 1,233 for compute. Whereas in 3Dmark, the Sling Shot test gets a value of 81 and the Extreme Sling Shot cannot be used. On PC Mark, for computer vision the value was 1,867, work 2.0 performance was obtained 3,627, for storage it was obtained a value of 3,929 and for work performance obtained a value of 4,504. For resources, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is supported by a 2,600 mAh removable battery.
Dual SIM 4G LTE
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is equipped with two micro SIM card slots that already support 4G LTE. The SIM card slot on this phone uses a separate card slot between SIM 1 and SIM 2. Likewise the external memory card slot is available separately. You can exchange data wirelessly via Bluetooth 4.1 and direct Wi-Fi. As for location navigation, this cellphone has been inserted by GPS and AGPS. Testing uses the Google Maps application, the application runs smoothly and no problems are encountered.
Multimedia
This samsung smartphone still provides multimedia features in the form of an audio player and video player. Playing high resolution video files has no problem. Sound output sounds standard without special settings. Samsung Galaxy J2 Core still provides FM radio features but without recording or non RDS features.
8MP Rear Camera and 5MP Front
This phone does not include various modes and only automatic mode available. For photo size (rear camera) settings are available which consist of 8 megapixels (4: 3, 3264x2448), 6 megapixels (16: 9, 3264x1836) and 6 megapixels (1: 1, 2448x2448). As for videos, you can get FHD (1920x1080). This camera still provides several effects, namely gray, sepia, negative, red highlights, green highlights and blue highlights.
The results of outdoor photos feel standard but still reliable. Of course you will not get focus shooting that tends to macros. Especially if you expect the bokeh effect. For indoor, the results are rather disappointing. Out of focus photos tend to blur.

Conclusion
Samsung Galaxy J2 Core relies on Samsung's big name with durability and performance stability. As a beginner class mobile phone with a price tag of a million less, all general usage runs smoothly. 4G support is a mainstay. It's just that the limitations of RAM and ROM certainly limit the usage in perfunctory conditions. From the camera side, it feels mediocre, unreliable. Without fingerprint features especially face recognition makes it really simple.
