The Galaxy J Series that inhabits the middle class segment, seems to get more attention from Samsung behind this. After presenting the Galaxy J7 +, followed by the Galaxy J7 Duo, as a product that is a dual camera pioneer in the Galaxy J series, Samsung now presents the Galaxy J6. This phone is the first cellphone to carry the infinity display screen, from the series that is intended for young millennial users. Here's Kellytech's review.

Adopting an infinity display screen that has a current ratio of 18.5: 9, certainly affects the appearance of this phone in terms of physical. Instead of like the other previous Galaxy J series that look wide thanks to a 16: 9 screen plus a bezel at the top and a large screen, this phone looks even more elongated. This is because in addition to the ratio of the screen has followed the current trends, the bezel above and below the screen also looks minimalist. Practically there are no physical navigation buttons below the screen, while the top bezel is occupied by a selfie camera, earpiece speaker, proximity sensor and flash light for selfie cameras.

Because of the body dimensions that also makes this phone look like a product from the ranks of the Galaxy S or A series that are more expensive and first known as Infinity Display. On the back side, the resemblance is increasingly becoming. With the main camera, fingerprint scanner sensor, and Samsung logo arranged vertically in the middle, plus a flash lamp placed on the right side of the main camera lens, this phone looks so similar to the Galaxy A8 or Galaxy S9.

The underside of the cellphone is inhabited by a microUSB port, a mic and a 3.5mm audio jack hole. The loudspeaker hole is placed on the right side to minimize the risk of being covered by the user's hand when used to watch videos in landscape orientation. The power button and the screen lock are also placed on the same side as the loudspeaker.

On the opposite side or the left side, put the volume control button and 2 pieces of tray. The first tray holds the SIM 1 card while the second tray holds the SIM 2 card and an external memory card in the microSD format.

Plastic material finishing doff contributes to making this phone feel tight in the hand. This plastic material is indeed not the best Samsung has ever used for the Samsung Galaxy J6 series. A more solid material that is aluminum is used by the company from the Korean country on the Samsung Galaxy J7 +. Even so, Kellytech still feels this phone has very good build quality, just like other products made by the ruler of the smartphone market.

Infinity Display

As mentioned earlier, this phone is the first of the Galaxy J series to adopt the current Infinity Display screen. Infinity Display itself is a designation popularized by Samsung for minimal screen edges with an extended ratio of 18: 9. The rear is also popularly known as bezelles, full screen, full view and many other designations.

But it's not just the screen ratio that is Samsung's superior Infinity Display. Because Samsung's full screen technology uses Super AMOLED panels which are known to have strong color display characters.

As with the Galaxy S9, users can adjust the brightness, contrast and saturation to the tastes of the user through the Screen Mode settings that provide choices of Adaptive displays, AMOLED cinema, AMOLED photo and Basic. The Adaptive display option will make the screen automatically optimize the color range, saturation and sharpness of the image according to the graphic characters currently displayed on the screen.

Because each pixel on the Super AMOLED panel can be lit independently, this panel is known to have black characters that are very thick and more energy efficient, especially if users are good at maximizing them by choosing dark colored themes and wallpapers. These advantages are also usually used for the Always-On Display feature, unfortunately this phone does not have that feature.

Even so, there are several other functional features related to the screen that this phone has. Like Outdoor mode, which will maximize brightness on the screen for outdoor use on a very sunny day. Brightness in this mode is even higher than the maximum value in manual brightness settings.

In addition, there is also a Blue light filter feature, which reduces the blue light coming out of the cellphone screen. According to research, blue light is the main factor that makes the eyes tired when looking at the screen for a long time, especially when the lighting conditions around are relatively dim. So this mode will be very useful to be activated at night, especially for users who are accustomed to reading articles, e-mails, messages or maybe watching videos before going to bed.

Oreo and Samsung Experience

In the software or software sector, this cellphone has adopted the latest version of Android Oreo 8.0 which is wrapped with Samsung Experience 9.0.

The interface is certainly already very familiar to Samsung loyal users with multi panels on the homescreen that accommodate shortcuts to applications and widgets.

Users can touch and hold one of the application icons on the homescreen to access a number of options. For example on the YouTube application, if the user holds this application icon, the search, subscription and trending options will appear. Users can directly enter each of these tabs by clicking on one of the options. Or users can also create a shortcut to go directly to the tabs by holding it and placing it in the homescreen area.

In the leftmost panel on the Homescreen, there is Bixby Home which displays the latest updates from a number of applications such as LinkedIn, YouTube, Gallery, Facebook, Weather, Samsung Health, Flipboard and others.

To display a list of applications or the App Drawer, users just have to swipe up or down on one of the Homescreen panels. If you are familiar with the old way, users can display a special App Drawer icon on the dock at the bottom of the screen by activating it in the Settings menu> Display> Home screen> Apps button.

Complete Biometrics

Although classified as a middle class, the security features of this cellphone are fairly complete. This phone is also equipped with 2 popular biometric-based screen locking features, namely fingerprint scanner and face recognition.

During testing, both fingerprint security features and face recognition work very instant and accurately. Before being activated, users are required to make standard backup security settings, which are accompanied by the use of PIN, password, and pattern. This is needed as a way out when in certain circumstances the biometric-based security feature does not work, for example when the user's hand is wet or sweaty, or if the front camera lens is dirty.

Interestingly, with the biometric-based scanner earlier, users can use a feature if they have a Samsung Account. The feature in question is Samsung Pass, with this feature users can save their username and password from various social media accounts or applications that are owned and synchronize them to Samsung Account. Furthermore, when you want to log in to a saved account, the user does not need to manually type the username and password and just scan the fingerprint.

Other security-based features provided by Samsung through the Secure Folder application. With this application users can hide files and applications that are confidential and private. Not only that, users can even duplicate desired applications such as chat applications. The duplicated application can then be stored in a secure folder so that only cellphone owners can access it.

Camera

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo, which recently tested Kellytech as well as a fellow member of the Galaxy J clan, this cellphone can be said to be inferior. Being in the same price range, this phone is not equipped with other current features that are also popular lately in addition to the Bezelless screen, which is dual cam.

Even so, the true Galaxy J6 camera does not disappoint at all. On the main camera side, there is a sensor with a maximum resolution of 13 megapixels. The lens opening or diaphragm is also fairly large, namely F / 1.9. Unfortunately, even though the size of the diaphragm should allow users to create photos with bokeh effects, this phone is not equipped with special modes to accommodate it. Even in Pro mode there is no manual focus setting or even manual aperture (diaphragm / f-stop) to make it easier to make photos with the bokeh effect.

In the Samsung Galaxy J6 camera Pro mode, there are only manual settings for Exposure Value, ISO, White Balance and Metering. Even so, the available modes are actually quite a lot. In addition to Pro mode, there is a choice of Auto, Stickers, Continuous shot, Beauty, Panorama, Night and HDR (Rich tone) modes.

Fashion Stickers will certainly steal the attention of young users who are the target market for this mobile phone. In this mode users can apply a kind of digital mask that will follow the facial movements of a photo object or a sticker in the form of a photo to be taken.

Unlike the main camera, there is a Selfie Focus option for making selfies with a bokeh effect. Unfortunately, the blur cannot be set manually. On the front camera, the Stickers feature can also be used.

In addition to Selfie focus and Stickers, there is a wide selfie mode option for creating selfies with several people at once, and Selfie mode which also contains beauty effects to beautify faces digitally.

Hardware

The Specification ofSamsung Galaxy J6 uses the same chipset as its predecessor which also comes from the Galaxy J line, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro. Even though J7 Pro has been filling the local market for almost a year. In another series, Samsung also pinned the same chipset on the Samsung Galaxy A6 (2018) which was introduced to the public on the island of Dewata last May.

This phone uses Exynos 7 series with a 7870 model that carries a quad-core processor with a speed of 1.6 GHz on each core processor. When Kellytech tested using a benchmark application, including the latest version of Antutu, this cellphone also only recorded a score of 60 thousand. Even though the Galaxy J Series that was present before also has a price tag that is not much different from this phone, the Galaxy J Duo, it can get values up to 97 thousand.

This phone is also only equipped with 32GB of internal memory with 3GB RAM capacity. When compared with some competitors in the same price range, this cellphone also becomes relatively inferior in terms of price-to-performance ratio. Because generally the competitors of this cellphone have pocketed 4GB of RAM with a larger internal storage capacity.

Conclusion

In terms of appearance, the Samsung Galaxy J6 brings fresh air to Samsung loyal fans in the middle segment. With the present screen with infinity display technology, the physical appearance of this cellphone is out of the grip of the previous Galaxy J and looks as if "up the class" to the A or S Series.

Unfortunately, the performance behind the runway is inversely proportional to what is presented outside. Compared to a number of competitors in the same price range, the performance of this phone can be said to be less powerful due to the specifications of the inferior hardware it carries.
