Samsung marks the first decade of innovation in its proud Galaxy by launching the highest-class occupant products from its entire Galaxy series, the Galaxy S Series. The series of Galaxy S Series which are now in the tenth generation is filled by 3 variants including Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10e and Galaxy S10 +.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 + is a variant with the highest specifications among the three and comes in 3 memory capacity options which are priced at a range of prices ranging from 14 million to 24 million. A pretty fantastic price for a cellphone. But is this phone worthy of being redeemed at this fantastic price, following Kellytech's review.
Design
Judging from its physical shape, this cellphone still looks to carry the typical S Series gene with rounded shape in all four iconic angles and curves on the right and left sides on the front and rear surfaces of the cellphone. But if you pay attention to every detail, of course there are some small differences but it brings big changes.
Starting from the front side, it appears that the phone's screen is more dominant filling the front compared to its predecessors from the ranks of the Galaxy S Series. This is thanks to the thin bezel on the upper and lower sides of the screen that is possible with the implementation of the latest screen design innovations on this phone. The upper bezel that used to be a place where the selfie camera dwells is now thinner, because this front camera lens moves to the screen area with a punch hole design.
While changes on the back side appear on the camera arrangement and removal of the fingerprint scanner. The dual camera on the Galaxy S9 + is arranged vertically, while the Galacy S10 Plus tri-camera is arranged horizontally. On the other hand, a conventional-style fingerprint scanner is removed from the back side and moved hidden behind the scenes.
On the design side, the choice of colors displayed on the back certainly cannot be ruled out. Of the 8 color choices introduced by Samsung at its global launch in the Unpacked Galaxy San Francisco, there are 5 colors available on the Indonesian market for the S10 +, namely Prism White, Prism Black, Prism Green, Ceramic Black and Ceramic White.
The last 2 color choices are premium colors which are also only available on the "premium" S10 + version, namely 8 / 512GB and 12GB / 1TB memory variants. Premium because each is priced at Rp. 18.5 Million and Rp. 24 million.
In the Kellytech test Prism White color unit, Samsung's branding on the back is presented with matching colors, while the majority of the glass-side rear side is presented with a gem-like white color that emits rainbow-like colors when exposed to light from a certain angle.
Apart from that, a number of ports and physical buttons on this cellphone are similar to their predecessors in terms of position and number, including a 3.5mm audio port and a special Bixby feature button.
Screen
Unlike a punch hole design screen or other perforated screen, Samsung puts 2 camera lenses at the same time on the hole in the upper right corner of the Galaxy S10 + screen. So even though it's called infinity-O, the hole on the screen of this cellphone looks more like a pill than the letter O.
The default wallpaper options available in the system are darkly designed in the right-hand area, which will disguise the presence of this hole. But there is another way to make the presence of this unique shaped hole so that it is more interesting by downloading the wallpaper that blends the camera design with the image displayed on the screen. Like the Darth Vader picture wallpaper that Kellytech uses for the lock screen or space expedition vehicle that Kellytech uses on the homescreen. You can also download it by searching using the keyword "S10 + wallpaper".
In the display sector, infinity-O design is not the main thing to become a Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus commodity. In fact, Kellytech sees the capabilities of HDR10 + as more attractive, because the Galaxy S10 Series is the first cellphone to adopt this technology. With this feature, the S10 + screen is capable of displaying a very high Dynamic Range, so that in one frame presentation (photos or videos) with dark areas and bright areas that have very different lighting differences, all the details can be seen properly. This feature is also the reason Samsung named the S10 + screen panel with Dynamic AMOLED.
Nevertheless the content that also supports HDR10 + technology seems not to be too much available to be enjoyed in Indonesia, so even though it is interesting and sophisticated, this feature is still difficult to maximize its use.
Without looking at the HDR10 + feature, the actual screen of this phone is more than attractive with WQHD + resolution, a fairly large size, and high pixel density. Touching on the resolution, users can choose a smaller resolution via the Settings> Display> Screen Resolution menu. By choosing a smaller resolution, the use of battery power by the screen is even more efficient.
Software
As one part of Samsung's latest flagship series, the Galaxy S10 series, this phone certainly brings all the best and the latest from Samsung. This S10 + uses a combination of Android Pie and Samsung One UI in the software sector.
Samsung One UI has received credit from various media thanks to its ease of use (user friendliness), minimalist appearance and various features offered.
The menu icon is redesigned to make it more fresh and colorful. The menu arrangement is made in such a way that it is friendly for one hand operation, where almost all important choices from the default menu can be reached by the thumb. Like for example the setting options in the Settings menu only fill 2/3 of the bottom of the screen so that all options in the Settings menu can be reached by the thumb. A similar design is also presented on a number of menus and default applications starting from the Gallery, Bixby Home, Messages, Contacts and others.
One UI also brings the Night Mode feature that changes the interface interface on the majority of the menu / application default One UI to be dark in color, including in the Settings, Browser, Calendar and even notification panel. Not only is it more friendly to the eyes for dark or night use, this feature will also make power consumption much more efficient considering the panel used for the screen is basically AMOLED.
When the user activates the face recognition (biometric) biometric security feature, a light effect will appear that moves on the edge of the front camera area as a marker that the front camera of this phone is working scanning the user's face.
In addition to face recognition, the Samsung Galaxy S10 + also carries a choice of other biometric-based security features, the fingerprint scanner. Interestingly, it not only hides these sensors behind the scenes like some competing products, but Samsung also develops fingerprint sensors with Ultra Sonic Fingerprint Scanner technology.
As the name implies, this technology utilizes ultrasonic waves to read the user's fingerprint pattern, so that the screen does not need to emit light to the user's finger in the scanning process as well as technology under the fingerprint display used by other manufacturers before. With the Ultra Sonic Fingerprint Scanner the performance of the S10 + fingerprint scanner feels fast and precise, although in some experiments, there are still moments when our fingerprints fail to be recognized.
Hardware and Battery
As mentioned earlier, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is available in 5 color choices and 3 choices of RAM and ROM memory combinations. The Kellytech test is a variant of 8GB RAM memory with 128GB of internal memory capacity.
Although it is the lowest variant, this combination is certainly ideal for daily use, unless you always save the RAW format when shooting or consistently choose Ultra HD resolution when recording videos with this phone.
Behind the kitchen runway, S10 + is certainly equipped with the latest chipset from Qualcomm, Snapdragon 855. This chipset carries 8 core processors which are divided into 3 clusters, the first group consists of a Kryo 485-based core with a speed of 2.84GHz, then in the second group there are 3 cores based on a slightly lower speed of 2.41GHz, and the last of the 4 cores is also based on Kryo 485 with the speed of each core 1.78GHz.
These clusters will collaborate in order to present a qualified and efficient performance simultaneously. The first cluster will work on various processes that require spontaneous and intensive performance, for example when first running a "heavy" game. Then the second cluster will handle processing that requires continuous performance but is more energy efficient. And the third cluster takes care of the light processing or activity of applications running in the background, with very high power efficiency.
Regarding batteries, the S10 + is equipped with a 4100mAh power supply with the support of 15 Watt fast charging Adaptive Fast Charging using both cable and wireless. Not enough there, users can also function this phone like a Powerbank thanks to the 9W Reverse wireless charging feature. Besides being able to charge other phones, the S10 + can also transfer power to other devices that support Qi Wireless Charging such as Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Watch. GalaxyS10 + also features Adaptive Power Saving Mode that automatically learns the usage patterns and habits of users to save power, for example by turning off some functions that are not normally used at certain times.
As a cellphone with the highest caste from the market ruler, of course the performance presented by the Samsung Galaxy S10 + is classified as Superior. The following are the results of synthetic benchmark testing that Kellytech did using several applications.
Camera
On the back side, the Samsung Galaxy S10 + rear camera setup is almost identical to its predecessor (Galaxy S9 +), of course with the addition of a 16MP resolution sensor with an UltraWide lens (12mm) and an f / 2.2 aperture. This additional sensor provides a new capability for the S10 + compared to its predecessor, which is to take pictures with a wider area of view even resembling a human eye with a range of up to 123 degrees.
While the other two sensors from the triple-camera circuit are a 12 MP Wide (26mm) camera, with support for Dual-Aperture (f / 1.5-2.4) and Dual Pixel features and a telephoto (52mm) camera with the same resolution.
Later, Kellytech felt the stabilization feature in video recording was getting better on premium-class phones. Likewise with S10 +, it doesn't feel shocked even though recording videos without a tool (stabilizer) and while walking. The Video Stabilization feature can be activated via the camera settings menu. And not only that, users can activate the Super Steady feature which will make the camera movement smoother (smooth). Video Stabilization and Super Steady are only available in HD, Full HD (30 and 60 fps) and UHD (30fps) resolutions, while for UHD (60fps) options this feature cannot be activated.
Switching to the front camera, dual camera configuration with a combination of 10 MP sensor (f / 1.9) which is supported by 8 MP resolution depth sensor (f / 2.2). With the presence of a depth detection sensor, the Live Focus feature on the front camera is more precise in applying the bokeh effect. Besides bokeh, the Live Focus feature also provides Spin Blur, Zoom Blur and Color Point options.
Camera Results
Here are some shots of the S10 + camera.
Conclusion
No doubt if the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is one of the best choices available on the market today. When compared to its predecessor (Galaxy S9 +), this cellphone brought a number of innovations such as the Ultra Sonic Fingerprint Scanner, additional Ultra-Wide cameras and Infinity-O displays with Dynamic AMOLED panels. In addition, the enhancements given by Samsung for its champion are "standard" such as newer generation chipsets, larger memory capacity, and a more fresh Android version. The problem is, as one of the flagship class products with the highest price tag at the moment, Kellytech hasn't seen the S10 + become a "checkmate" step from Samsung to beat its competitors.
