Review of Samsung Galaxy A70 - Wide screen like Cinema and Latest Battery Charging Features

Galaxy A Series seems to be the most worked out series by Samsung this year, since the beginning of the year until now there have been Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A30 ,Galaxy A40 and Galaxy A50. This is Samsung adding the A Series troops in the presence of the A70. Even in the near future, reportedly, the Galaxy A80 which brings innovations to the rotating camera will soon be presented to the country.

But for a while until the A80 really arrived, the Samsung Galaxy A70 which Kellytech tested this time was the 2019 Galaxy A Series which was the most superior in the Indonesian market. Along with the specifications, the price tag of the A70 is certainly higher than the other Galaxy A Series, then what about the performance and features it carries, following Kellytech's review.

Physically, the appearance of the Samsung Galaxy A70 has a strong enough identity with its huge body. Despite having more length and width than other phones on the market, the Galaxy A70 is thin. Even with a thickness of less than 8mm and a large body this cellphone seems very thin.

The big body of this cellphone reminds Kellytech of Galaxy Mega which was nicknamed phablet or fusion results from phones and tablets because its size is too large for a cellphone and at the same time it is too small to be called a tablet. But it seems too excessive if you call this phone is Samsung's attempt to restore the phablet trend that has been long enough.

Although big, but the Galaxy A70 is still quite safe to handle with one hand for male hand size in general. As for female users, it looks like this phone will be more comfortable to use with both hands. Related to this, Samsung's One UI contributes its own contribution that Kellytech will discuss in the next segment.

Speaking of color, in the black unit Kellytech tests, there is a kind of sparkle in the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple) that glow according to the light reflected in it. The rear side is only inhabited 3 the main camera in the left-top area and the Samsung logo in the center. There is no fingerprint scanner, because this one biometric sensor is placed behind the scenes following the latest trends that have recently emerged in a number of premium and flagship class phones.

On the right side, there is a pair of volume control buttons accompanied by a power button, while on the opposite side there is only a slot that holds a tray with a capacity of 2 Micro SIM cards and a MicroSD card. There is no Bixby button like the latest S and Note Series from Samsung.

Default Data Cable Makes It Fuss

At the bottom of the cellphone, there is a 3.5mm audio port, USB Type C and loudspeaker hole. Regarding the use of USB Type C ports, Kellytech has few complaints. Actually it's not on the port but on the default data cable on the sales package which is a data cable with USB Type C (male) on both sides. Because, the default Galaxy A70 charger adapter that supports Super Fast Charging (25W) also uses a USB Type-C port.

The problem comes when Kellytech wants to move data from this phone to a PC or laptop that doesn't have a USB Type C port. This means users have to pay extra for a USB Type C data cable to a standard USB (USB Type A). It also can't be careless, because when Kellytech tried to connect this phone to a PC with a data cable that was attached to another cellphone that also used USB Type C to standard USB, this cellphone was not readable on a Windows system. While on the cellphone there is only an indication of charging.

Thus Kellytech must look for other ways to transfer data that are not at all simple, for example using Google Drive services which of course requires an internet connection on both devices (cellphones and PCs).

Data transfer may be a little easier even without a data cable if only the default Samsung One UI file manager application called "My Files" features FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

The wide screen is the main reason behind the Samsung Galaxy A70's huge body. The 6.7-inch screen of this cellphone does exceed most mobile phones on the market today, even when compared to even premium-class phones. As Kellytech remembers, the Galaxy A70 even has a screen with the widest diagonal span among other phones that have been officially marketed in Indonesia since 2018.

With the design of the Infinity-U screen and thin bezel on the left, right and bottom of the screen, the screen of the Galaxy A70 impressed so widely but still comfortable to operate using one hand. Moreover, because of the provision of the latest display interface made by Samsung, namely One UI.

As is known, Samsung has designed the One UI in such a way that it is comfortable to operate using one hand. Because all choices from the default menu (for example settings, contacts, browser, calendar and more) can be reached by the thumb.

Like for example the setting options in the Settings menu only fill 2/3 of the bottom of the screen so that all options in the Settings menu can be reached by the thumb. Likewise on the default Samsung browser that places a number of menus such as the homepage, back / forward, bookmarks and other menus in the area below the screen, so that it is again easily reached by the thumb. So basically, thanks to One UI, the menu operation on the A70's wide screen can still be done with one hand.

Like premium class phones from the previous Samsung Galaxy line, the Galaxy A70 uses Samsung's proud panel, Super AMOLED.

The screen sector is one of the leading points of this cellphone, considering that not only is its large size, the screen of this mobile phone also has an "unusual" ratio, 20: 9. With this ratio, the Galaxy A70's screen seems wide and cinematic. Cinematic, because this wide ratio approaches the widescreen cinema ratio standard or the standard ratio of widescreen cinema that ranges from 21: 9 to 22: 9.

Triple Rear Camera

The triplets on the back of the phone are almost identical to the ones Kellytech found on the previous Galaxy A Series, the Galaxy A50 which Samsung recently presented to Indonesia. The configuration is also like the presence of a main camera (wide), ultra-wide, and depth sensors.

The difference is, the main camera of the Galaxy A70 has a higher resolution than that of its brother (32MP versus 25 MP). The rest, the ultra wide camera resolution and depth sensor on both are the same.

The available modes on camera features are almost similar, in addition to the standard choices, photos and videos there are a number of important modes including Panorama, Pro, Live Focus Bixby Vision and AR Emoji. Besides that, there is also an artificial intelligence (AI) based feature called Samsung as Scene Optimizer.

But there is a mode on the A70 that does not exist on the Galaxy A50, which is Super Slow Motion mode to make videos with slowed motion as is the case with the Galaxy S and Note Series which are premium class phones from this Korean manufacturer. The difference is that on the Galaxy and Note Series Mode Super Slow Motion is recording at 960fps while on this phone the speed is only limited to 480fps.

Regarding the results, Kellytech felt a photo shot of the Galaxy A70 with the main camera looking a little better than its predecessor with a natural, impressive representation of color, detail and sharpness.

Selfie Camera

Although not as complete as the main camera, the Samsung Galaxy A70 selfie camera still has a number of essential modes and features such as Live Focus, Photos, Videos, AR Emoji, Wide Selfie, Beauty and Filters.

And although the value of the lens opening (aperture) on the front camera with 32MP resolution is not as big as the main camera, which is only limited to F / 2.0, Kellytech senses that this mobile selfie camera is still very reliable for shooting in a rather dim lighting situation. The result is quite satisfying with minimal grain noise. Even in dim places, the AR Emoji feature can still be used and works very well in detecting the user's face.

And here are some results of shots of cameras on the Galaxy A70

Durable Battery and Hardware Performance

Kellytech has mentioned in the first impression rubric with the Galaxy A70, that the battery sector is another part of the flagship of this mobile phone beside the screen sector Kellytech mentioned earlier.

The power capacity of the battery is relatively large (4500mAh) and the support of Super Fast Charging features is the reason. Super Fast Charging technology that debuted on this phone uses 20W of power, higher than the Adaptive Fast Charging (15W) technology that Samsung has used for some of its proud Galaxy products.

When this article was written, the Samsung Galaxy A70 the Kellytech test has been active for 1 day plus 13 hours since the power on the battery is filled to full (100%) until it leaves 49%. And according to system analysis, this cellphone can still last up to 1 more day with the same usage pattern.

Compared to other Galaxy A Series, this phone has the closest chipset specifications to the Galaxy A50. The difference is, Samsung uses a Qualcomm chipset that is Snapdragon 675 with 11nm fabrication. Compared to the Galaxy A50's Exynos 9610, this chipset has a big core configuration that is inferior ie 2x2.0GHz compared to 4x2.3GHz.

But interestingly, when tested using a number of benchmark applications that Kellytech used normally, this cellphone always scored higher than his brother. So it looks like the Galaxy A70 is quite worthy of having a higher price tag than the Galaxy A50.

Conclusion

With the performance offered, it is only natural that the Samsung Galaxy A70 has the highest price tag in the Galaxy A Series that serves the middle class. But with a level specification, unfortunately some competitors have a more friendly price tag. This seems reasonable, considering the Galaxy A70 brings Samsung's big name and after-sales service which is certainly more guaranteed.

There is one thing that most disturbs Kellytech when testing, which is the complicated transfer of data from mobile to PC. If this can be given an easier solution, it will certainly help users.

Advantages

  1. Wide and wide AMOLED screen
  2. Triple camera
  3. Large battery with Super Fast Charging
