Samsung Galaxy A50 Review - Triple Camera with Fingerprint Sensor at the Bottom of the Screen

After reviewing two other Samsung Galaxy A series smartphones, the Galaxy A10 and Galaxy A30, this time it was the turn of the Samsung Galaxy A50 which will be reviewed by Kellytech in this edition. The smartphone that debuted at the official price of 4 millions for 4GB RAM variants and 64 GB of internal memory. Currently the selling price has been corrected to IDR 3,799,000. I do not know what the reason Samsung Mobile Indonesia corrects the price of the Samsung Galaxy A50, even though this smartphone has recently circulated in the market.

Bringing specifications and attractive features in its class, the Samsung Galaxy A50 offers not only the design side offered, but this device carries a powerful display technology, photography facilities with 3 charming rear cameras, large capacity batteries and embedded fingerprint sensor technology below the screen.

However, with the provision of specifications and features that are already very tempting and the selling price that is more affordable than smartphones in its class makes this device worthy of possession?

Charming, Slim Body

We start from the design side, the Samsung Galaxy A50 comes with a charming and elegant design. Although it has a large body size, the Samsung Galaxy A50 comes with a typical Samsung smartphone body material where the front of the device is wrapped with a large screen with additional bangs at the top. In addition, the rear body cover that embeds plastic material but the implanted finishing is fairly special where the embedded rear body cover has a very tempting color equivalent. Not only that, the embedded rear body cover has also been coated with 3D glass which makes it more attractive.

The interface of the Galaxy A50 has been coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective glass to reduce scratches and impact when placed on a table or other rough surface. The thing that is quite unfortunate is that in the sales package Samsung does not include a protective case. Even though it is somewhat trivial, this is very useful to further protect the device from impact.

Still discussing the matter of the implanted design, the Samsung Galaxy A50 has a slim body size with a thickness of only 7.7 mm. This is quite interesting, because this device has implanted a large capacity battery that is 4000 mAh. When compared with smartphone devices in its class, the amount of battery capacity is quite influential on body thickness on smartphone devices.

Talking about the design offered, the Samsung Galaxy A50 which has a fairly large body size comes with a home button and volume located on the right side of the device. While for the 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port and speakers are embedded at the bottom. On the left side of the device, Samsung pinned holes 2 sim cards that are accompanied by a microSD card slot.

Turning to the back, Samsung pinned 3 rear cameras with different functions. Right below the embedded rear camera, Samsung pinned the LED flash light. Unlike the smartphone that Kellytech has reviewed before, the Samsung Galaxy A50 immerses a fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the screen.

Infinity U Super AMOLED screen

As a Galaxy A Series smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A50 carries a captivating hardware repertoire. One of them is on the side of the screen that is implanted. Not much different from other Galaxy A Series, Samsung Galaxy A50 has also been equipped with Super AMOLED display technology that has been known for its sharp and clear screen quality but does not quickly make eyes tired when used. Compared to the screen technology embedded in other smartphones, this screen panel has a more vivid (bright) color display characteristics and more intense black than the IPS panel. In addition, with the use of themes and dark wallpapers, users can save power more optimally.

In addition to Super AMOLED display technology, the Samsung Galaxy A50 also embeds Infinity-U as its main selling point. For the screen size, the Samsung Galaxy A50 immerses a 6.4-inch screen with FHD + 1080 x 2340 pixels. To protect the embedded screen, Samsung has embedded a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 glass coating.

Accompanying the embedded screen panel, the Samsung Galaxy A50 has been equipped with the Always On Display (AOD) feature. This AOD feature can provide a variety of information when the screen is locked such as incoming message notifications, time information, weather information and others. Interestingly, the display time offered is quite varied, Samsung has provided 16 different types of displays. If you are not satisfied, users can download it on Galaxy Themes.

Fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the screen

Unlike other Galaxy A Series such as Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20 and Galaxy A30, starting from Samsung Galaxy A50, Samsung implements a fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the screen or commonly called fingerprint on screen. The innovation of the fingerprint sensor below the screen is indeed not Samsung who became the pioneer. However, this should be a thumbs up because Samsung really prioritizes security in its devices. But unfortunately, the response in reading a user's fingerprint is not as fast as on a conventional fingerprint sensor. However, this did not have much influence on the security offered.

Accompanying the fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the screen, Samsung also presents other security features that are also equally attractive, namely the face scanner sensor. For the ability to read the user's face is fairly fast compared to responding to fingerprint scanning below the screen. In addition to these two security features, Samsung also provides other security options such as pin patterns, and others.

One UI 1.1 Based on Android 9.0 Pie

As the latest generation smartphone from Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy A50 is equipped with the Android 9.0 operating system. But for its interface, Samsung combines it with Samsung One UI, which is Samsung's latest software for smartphone devices launched in 2019.

Compared to the appearance of Samsung's previous UI smartphone, One UI which is embedded in the Samsung Galaxy A50 has a simpler and fresher look. Not only that, Samsung has also added new features to maximize its capabilities.

For users who have small sized hands, Samsung has presented a feature that allows users to operate this device with just one hand. Samsung mentions as a one-handed mode, besides that there is also a night mode where if the user activates this feature, the screen display of this device will look dark. What's more, by using this mode, the smartphone device will consume less power which will have an effect on the battery life for longer.

But there are features that Kellytech thinks are very attractive for today's smartphone users, namely Game Launcher. This feature is needed by users who like to do gaming activities where this feature can focus this device on performance. By presenting a powerful performance when playing games, users will be increasingly spoiled when playing games without the need to fear a lag or obstacles when playing.

Embedded also features gestures and gestures where this feature provides convenience in operating this device. Among them are smart active features. This feature allows users to stay active using a smartphone device just by looking at it. Even though it comes with bangs support at the top, for users who don't want to display it can delete bangs become invisible.

Hardware

Entering the performance sector, the Samsung Galaxy a50 comes with the latest chipset from Samsung, the Exynos 9610, this chipset comes with a dual quad-processor 2.3GHz and 1.7GHz configuration with 10 nm fabrication. This chipset has also been supported with Mali-G72MP3 graphics. For its own unit, Kellytech uses a 4GB RAM version and 64GB of internal memory.

In a few days of direct use, the performance presented by this device is fairly good in its class. This is evidenced by the benchmark score produced by getting a very good score in its class. In addition, when Kellytech uses this device to play games there are no obstacles which means even fairly smooth. Game Launcher feature support that maximizes the performance that is owned is very helpful for users who like to play games.

One thing that is also interesting from this device is the capacity of the embedded battery. The Samsung Galaxy A50 has embedded a 4000 mAh capacity battery combined with a fast battery charging feature. Not only provides comfort when used for activities, the durability of this device is also fairly good. Especially when the battery runs out the user does not need to need a long time to charge the battery.

Camera

Not much different from the contemporary smartphone that is widely circulating in the market, the Samsung Galaxy A50 also relies on photography features as one of the objects to attract consumer interest. 3 cameras embedded in the back of the device provide attractive options for consumers who like to do photography activities using smartphones.

Especially with the new prices pegged, making the Samsung Galaxy A50 has a much better appeal with a smartphone at a price that is not much different from it. As is known, the Samsung Galaxy A50 comes with a 25 megapixel main camera that also offers an f / 1.7 aperture. This main sensor is paired with a 8-megapixel wide-angle camera, giving users the choice to capture more objects in one image, and a special 5 megapixel depth sensor that should significantly enhance the bokeh image.

Not only equipped with 3 rear cameras, the supporting features embedded in this main camera are very diverse. Users can innovate with embedded features such as producing slow-motion video objects, time-lapse, AR stickers and emoji stickers. But what is unfortunate is that the professional mode on this device is fairly simple. Users can only change brightness, ISO settings are only available from 100 to 800 only. In addition, to set the speed there is no option at all.

Talking about the results of the cameras obtained, the main camera capabilities on the Samsung Galaxy A50 are fairly capable ranging from shooting with abundant light conditions to shooting in low light conditions. In addition, the live focus capability on this device is able to produce photos with a more natural bokeh effect.

Conclusion

With the new selling price, the Samsung Galaxy A50 offers a very attractive offer. Equipped with a variety of contemporary features ranging from design, screen, camera to the latest supporting features that make this device feasible to have. Both by smartphone users who prioritize the appearance of design, as well as smartphone users who like to do photography activities. This price range, although many smartphone devices are available but the Samsung Galaxy A50 provides a better option. But all choices are in the user's hands. Happy shopping.
